Thinking about the future

Architect’s drawing of suggested plans for the interior of Corby Glen Church
Architect’s drawing of a more accessible church

St John’s Church is the largest and oldest building in Corby Glen with excellent natural acoustics, potentially making it ideal for concerts, plays, lectures, tourism…

Its infrastructure (heating, lighting, plumbing, internet) needs to be brought up to standard, and its internal space reordered and developed to enable it to be used flexibly and imaginatively by future generations.

In October 2023 a Faculty was granted for the first set of improvements:

  • replace the inefficient, obsolete oil-fired boiler with a modern, efficient boiler that can use biofuel
  • bring a mains water supply into the church
  • beef up the electricity supply to three phase to enable future generations to install a heat pump
  • install a fibre-based broadband connection

The Friends of St John’s Church

To support these infrastructure projects, the Church Council decided to set up a new group: Friends of St John’s. This is for anyone who would like to:

  • ensure St John’s Church is there for future generations
  • have St John’s Church available for family occasions
  • support the development and upkeep of a historic and beautiful building.

The aims of the group are:

  • to support the development of St John’s Church and churchyard as an asset for the Corby Glen community and beyond
  • to enable Friends to give their personal services towards that end

An unofficial aim is to enjoy ourselves while doing the above!

By working together, sharing skills and experience, we can ensure the future of the wonderful building of St John’s Church, Corby Glen, at the heart of our village.

How to help

If you would like to become a Friend of St John’s Church, please get in touch with one of the Churchwardens, Sue Glover or Mick Franklin, or email friends@corbyglen.church.

If you would like to make a donation towards the regular maintenance and running costs of the building and churchyard, please Give A Little by following this link: St John’s Church, Corby Glen – Give A Little. We need to raise around £1,000 a month towards this cost, so every donation counts.

If you pay income tax or capital gains tax you can increase the value of your donation by allowing us to reclaim the Gift Aid; the Give A Little page enables this. You can also opt in for further contact from the Friends should you wish.
